Chris Telfer wants to bring CPA skills to treasury office

“Frightening” and “archaic” is how State Sen. Chris Telfer, R-Bend, describes the way Oregon’s finances are managed.
A certified public accountant elected to the legislature in 2008 after six-years on the Bend City Council, Telfer now has her sights set on becoming the state’s top financial officer. She ran unopposed in the Republican primary for state treasurer and now faces Democratic Ted Wheeler in the Nov. 2 general election. Gov. Ted Kulongoski appointed Wheeler to the post after Oregon State Treasurer Ben Westlund died in March.
Telfer visited Newport Wednesday to address the Lincoln County Republican Committee.
