Chris Telfer has lived, worked and raised her family in Oregon for the last 33 years. During that time, she has been deeply involved in her community, sitting on a multitude of boards, serving two terms on the Bend City Council, serving her first term in the State Senate and currently campaigning for State Treasurer. As State Treasurer, Chris will continue to take the same innovative approach to provide real solutions.
Over the years, Chris has tirelessly worked for better land use laws, improved transportation, affordable health care, fiscal conservatism, great schools and a sustainable quality of life for Oregon. Chris is known for tackling tough issues and utilizes strong, collaborative leadership to continue moving forward toward preserving the Oregon we know and love.
Responsible Fiscal Management The Office of the State Treasurer manages over 13 million financial transactions a year and sees over $120 billion flow through the office annually. As a CPA, Chris Telfer has the knowledge and training to responsibly oversee these functions.
Accountable to Taxpayers Chris Telfer is a strong advocate for government transparency and accountability. Throughout her time as a State Senator, City Council, and School District Budget Chair, she's fought for more detailed accounting of public resources to hold government responsible and reduce over-spending.
Managing Government Debt With the state facing a budget deficit of over $2.5 billion dollars next year, Chris Telfer will work to ensure that legislators don't try to balance the state budget on the backs of our children and grandchildren through excessive debt and borrowing.
A Watchful Eye The State Treasurer's Investment Division manages a portfolio valued at more than $68 billion dollars. That includes PERS assets, money for school and numerous other accounts. Chris Telfer has the background and knowledge to ensure we get the best possible return on our money.
